Molalla Prom Stories

Dear Molalla,

Last year about this time, a young lady pulled up in front of the shop, parked, and came in all by herself. She was put together, tall, soft spoken, and had the sweetest smile. I asked her how I could help and she nervously replied that she needed to order flowers for her prom date. As I asked her some questions she giggled and admitted that she didn’t know what she was doing. She explained that she was a homeschool student and this was her first dance. I smiled back at her and for a moment, remembered my first dance. Together we figured out what she needed, she paid, and off she went. She wasn’t even my child, but as the mom with two teenage girls of my own, I felt a sense of pride as I watched her walk out the door. That spring day, she stepped out of her comfort zone, showed courage and responsibility, and did it all with grace.

During that same week, a boy and his mom walked in. This time when I asked how I could help them, the mom didn’t answer for her son, but instead turned and looked at him. Her face said, “this is for you, you can do this.” He told me how he was going to prom and wanted to not only order flowers for his date, but for his date’s mother as well! I picked my jaw up off the floor and we placed their order. Chivalry is most definitely NOT dead.

It’s little moments like these that remind me why I love what I do. It’s not just flowers—it’s watching your kids grow up right in front of my eyes. It’s courage, kindness, firsts, and the people who show up to guide them along the way.

Molalla, if last year taught me anything, it’s that this next generation is doing just fine. Between the bravery, the kindness, and yes… the chivalry… I’d say we’ve got some pretty amazing kids coming up behind us.

Prom is right around the corner, and I have a feeling there are a few more sweet stories waiting to walk through that door. Whether it’s your first dance or your last, we’re here to help make it feel just a little more special.
